Notification issued 07-26-2023 at 6:30 PM.
The NYC Emergency Management Department (NYCEM) advises New Yorkers to prepare for potential high heat from 7/27 - 7/29. These conditions are dangerous to health. People without air conditioning, older adults, and people with chronic health conditions are most at risk.
Due to expected high temperatures and heat indices, NYC cooling centers will be open on 7/27. Cooling centers are air-conditioned facilities such as libraries, community centers, senior centers, and NYCHA facilities that are open to the public during heat emergencies. Some NYC Parks public pools, including intermediate and Olympic-sized outdoor pools, will extend their operating hours and stay open until 8:00 PM on Thursday, 7/27, Friday, 7/28, and Saturday, 7/29.
Preparedness Actions:
- Avoid strenuous activity
- Active children, adults, and people with lung disease such as asthma should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors
