ECCA’s Weekly Newsletter: October 29, 2023

Greetings Neighbor!

REMINDER: Our next civic meeting is Monday, November 6th at Beach Green Dunes Eats & Arts, 45-19 Rockaway Beach Blvd. ECCA has partnered with FRANC (Far Rockaway/Arverne Non-Profit Coalition) to discuss Participatory Budgeting, how it can help the community and what you can do to make that happen. We will be starting at 6pm and immediately following will be the civic meeting at 7pm. Food and refreshments will be provided to all in attendance. On the civic agenda we have confirmed Councilmember Selvena Brooks-Powers, Assemblywoman Stacey Phefer-Amato, NYC Department of Transportation, NYC Parks and Arverne East Nature Preserve. A separate email will be sent out with the full agenda. Please be sure to share and come with a neighbor!

The National Weather Service has issued the following:

What: Coastal Flood Advisory

Where: Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens South

When: 8 AM - 11 AM on 10/30

Hazards: Inundation of one foot above ground level may cause minor flooding of shore roads and/or properties.

Preparedness Actions:

- Avoid driving through or coming in contact with flood waters. Six inches of fast flowing water can knock you off your feet, and as little as one foot of rushing water can carry away a car. There could be pollutants in the water or other hazards that you cannot see.

- Coastal flood waters could damage your vehicle. Move your car to higher ground, and wash your car thoroughly if it makes contact with flood waters.

- New York City residents, please call 311 if you encounter flooding that makes roads impassable, causes property damage, or persists for more than 48 hours.
