Arverne East is a multi-faceted development that will transform a 116-acre vacant, oceanfront site within the Arverne and Edgemere neighborhoods of Queens. Arverne East’s programming is guided by community engagement to produce a thoughtful approach to development - one that directly addresses community needs while reflecting and enhancing the surrounding community and cultures.

Construction for the Nature Preserve and Multi-Purpose Building is nearing completion. Site prep for Edgemere Avenue improvements has commenced.

Nature Preserve: Site work continues with decking, pathways installations, and site clean-up. Spring plantings will resume soon. We hope to open the Nature Preserve to the community in Spring.

Multi-Purpose Building: Punch list items are nearing completion. Final landscaping and parking lot work will commence in spring.

Project Site Fence: The development team is working with HPD and other agency partners to secure the entirety of the Arverne East Development site between Edgemere Avenue to the north, the Rockaway Beach Boardwalk to the south, Beach 32nd Street to the East and Beach 38th Street to the west. The site will be fully secured with fencing, and security is anticipated to be further enhanced by the provision of security cameras placed throughout the site. Work associated with this effort is anticipated to commence later this spring.

Beach Access: Beach 44th has been reopened, and access at Beach 41st, Beach 35th, and Beach 32nd is anticipated to be maintained.

Edgemere Avenue Infrastructure Improvements: Prep work for the reconstruction of Edgemere Avenue between Beach 38th and Beach 32nd has begun with brush and overgrowth clearing along the edge of the future roadway. In a portion of the area where the brush has been cleared, the ground is being leveled to receive the fence and office trailer.
